Jackson Hospital unveils operating area expansion

MARK SKINNER / JACKSON COUNTY FLORIDAN

During a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, the public got to take a look at Jackson Hospital's new 9,500 square foot addition.

The expansion is expected to be in operation by the end of December.

The new section of the hospital holds four operating rooms, three procedure rooms, a nurse’s station and pre-surgery preparation areas and post operation recovery areas.  The operating rooms will be used for general surgeries, orthopedic and other major surgeries. The procedure rooms will be used for less invasive work such as endoscopy.

One of the new operating rooms is a “hybrid facility” outfitted for performing cardiac procedures such as catheterization. It is equipped with radiological equipment such as CT (also known as a CAT) scanner.

The new section is part of an ongoing $17 million surgery expansion.

Once the new facility is in operation renovation work will begin for a 12,500 square foot area that includes two old operating rooms as well as pre-op and post anesthesia care and the chapel area.
