Event Description:
The Scott Massacre was the first U.S. defeat of the Seminole Wars. A force of several hundred Creek, Seminole and Black Seminole warriors attacked a U.S. Army boat commanded by Lt. Richard W. Scott. The battle ended with the deaths of Scott, 34 U.S. soldiers, 6 women and 4 children and led President James Monroe to order Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson to invade Florida. Chattahoochee Main Street is hosting the 200th Anniversary Commemoration of the Scott Massacre of 1817 on December 1-2, 2017.
